KATHMANDU: Global electric vehicle sales reached 1.6 million units in July. The figure is 21% higher than the same month last year. However, sales dropped 9% compared to June according to Rho Motion

China remained the biggest market. It sold over 1 million EVs in July. Battery electric vehicles led the demand, while plug-in hybrids slowed down.

Europe followed with about 350,000 sales. Germany and the UK performed well. Italy also grew with new subsidies, while France is still behind but has plans to give more support soon.

North America sold around 120,000 units. Growth was slower because of policy changes. A short boost is expected as buyers take advantage of incentives.

The rest of the world added about 130,000 sales. Countries in Asia and South America showed strong growth. Lower prices and more models helped demand.

Analysts say the long-term trend is positive. Global EV adoption continues to rise. Over 10.7 million EVs have been sold so far this year.

When it comes to our domestic scenario, Nepal’s car market is small but has seen strong EV adoption in recent years, with most new vehicles sold now being electric. Growing demand and supportive policies have also drawn global attention.
