KATHMANDU: The upcoming NADA Auto Show is set to witness an interesting competition between two well-known Indian brands, Suzuki and Tata.

While Tata Motors has already established itself as one of the leading EV brands in Nepal, Suzuki is now stepping into the EV market with its first electric SUV.

Tata currently sells nearly half a dozen EVs in Nepal and has been steadily expanding its portfolio since 2020. Suzuki, on the other hand, enjoys a larger customer base in India and is now ready to showcase its electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in Nepal.

Both companies will present their new models, Suzuki e-Vitara and Tata Harrier EV at the NADA Auto Show starting August 19.

Suzuki’s distributor, CG Motocorp, has already introduced the e-Vitara to select media and will now display it for the general public at the event. Tata’s distributor, Sipradi Trading, is expected to unveil the Harrier EV directly at the show.

Suzuki e-Vitara: compact and practical

The e-Vitara is Suzuki’s first electric SUV. It is powered by FinDreams’ blade battery and comes in two options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with a claimed range of up to 500 km.

In real-world conditions, however, the larger battery is expected to deliver around 420 km.

The SUV features a 105 kW motor and offers multiple driving modes including Eco, Normal, Sports, Snow and One-Pedal Driving. With dimensions of 4,275 mm length, 1,800 mm width, 1,635 mm height and a 2,700 mm wheelbase, it sits in the compact midsize SUV category.

The ground clearance is 180 mm, making it suitable for city and light off-road use.

Tata Harrier EV: performance and capability

The Harrier EV has already created buzz in India for its strong performance, especially after demonstrating its off-road ability by climbing the famous Elephant Rock.

It comes with 65 kWh and 75 kWh LFP battery packs, and Tata offers a 15-year unlimited km warranty in India. Whether this warranty will extend to Nepal remains uncertain.

Tata claims a driving range of up to 627 km, though the figure may vary in daily use. The rear-wheel-drive variant is powered by a 175 kW motor, while the all-wheel-drive version gets a 291 kW motor delivering up to 504 Nm torque.

The AWD model also features advanced suspension, frequency-dependent dampers and six drive modes for different terrains—Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud/Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl and Custom.

Market outlook

With the entry of these models, the NADA Auto Show will see two strong Indian brands competing in a space largely dominated by Chinese EVs. Pricing will play a key role in determining their success in Nepal’s competitive market.

The Auto Show, scheduled from August 19 to 24, 2025, will reveal which brand captures more attention, Suzuki with its practical compact SUV or Tata with its feature-packed Harrier EV.
