KATHMANDU: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated Maruti Suzuki’s EV and battery manufacturing plant in Hansalpur, Gujrat.
During the event, he flagged off the company’s first global EV, the e-VITARA, which will be exported to more than 100 countries.
Modi also launched the Suzuki-Toshiba-Denso lithium-ion battery plant, which will support production of hybrid and electric vehicle batteries in India.
He highlighted the milestone as a step towards making India self-reliant and a global hub for green mobility.
“Today is a special day in India’s quest for self-reliance and being a hub for green mobility. The e-VITARA, made in India, will now travel to over a hundred nations. Alongside, production of hybrid battery electrodes will also commence in Gujarat, giving a major boost to our battery ecosystem,” PM Modi said.

The e-VITARA was earlier showcased at the NADA Auto Show 2025 in Nepal, where it gained attention as part of Maruti Suzuki’s push in the global EV market.
