KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management has urged the public not to be misled by false information circulating on social media regarding the installation of embossed number plates on vehicles.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the department clarified that although the installation of embossed number plates has been made mandatory from September 17, 2025, no immediate penalty will be imposed for not installing them.

It said the plates will be gradually installed on government, private and public vehicles. “You are requested to voluntarily install the embossed number plate at the transport office where you registered your vehicle at a convenient time and cooperate in the digitalization process,” the department added.

It further assured that the quality standards of embossed number plates have been maintained and that all vehicle data is stored securely within the department’s premises. “As the quality of the embossed number plate has been ensured, and the server has been managed to keep all vehicle details and statistics within the country, we request you not to follow false and misleading rumours,” the department stated.

According to the department, necessary infrastructure and manpower have been arranged at central and provincial offices to facilitate the process, with additional arrangements being made as required for the convenience of service seekers and vehicle owners.
