KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management has instructed public electric vehicles not to charge the recently increased fares.
Issuing a public notice, the department clarified that the automatic fare adjustment system applies only to diesel-powered vehicles. It does not apply to EVs.
The department had increased fares for inter-provincial fuel-based vehicles from April 8, citing a rise in global fuel prices.
However, after reports that EV operators also started charging the higher rates, the department has directed them to stick to the previous fare.
According to the notice, the fare revision was made only for diesel-operated public transport under the automatic adjustment system. EVs are not included in this provision.
The department has also reminded transport operators to issue passenger tickets mandatorily.
It warned that overcharging or failing to provide tickets will lead to action under the Motor Vehicles and Transport Management Act 2049 and related regulations.
