KATHMANDU: Tesla has reached a historic milestone by producing its 10 millionth electric vehicle, becoming the first automaker in the world to manufacture 10 million battery-electric cars.
The achievement comes more than 17 years after the company introduced the original Roadster and marks another milestone in Tesla’s leadership in the global EV industry.
The company announced the production milestone this week, highlighting the rapid expansion of its global manufacturing network. Tesla currently builds vehicles at its factories in Fremont, Shanghai, Berlin and Texas, with a combined annual production capacity of more than 2.3 million vehicles.
The Model 3 and Model Y have been the biggest contributors to Tesla’s production volume. The two models remain the world’s best-selling electric cars and account for the majority of the company’s global deliveries.
Although Tesla has reached the 10-million-unit milestone, its sales growth has slowed in recent years. The automaker delivered a record 1.81 million vehicles in 2023, followed by annual declines in 2024 and 2025, as demand softened in several key markets.
Tesla says its next phase of growth will be driven by a more affordable next-generation EV, alongside continued investment in autonomous driving technology and robotics. However, the lower-cost model has yet to enter production.
Despite the recent slowdown in deliveries, producing 10 million electric vehicles reinforces Tesla’s position as the world’s largest dedicated EV manufacturer and highlights its role in accelerating the global transition to electric mobility.
