KATHMANDU : Ground clearance has become one of the most important factors for electric vehicle buyers in Nepal. With many roads still uneven and speed breakers often poorly designed, buyers are increasingly looking for EVs that can handle rough terrain without scraping the underbody.
Unlike conventional petrol or diesel cars, EVs carry their battery pack beneath the floor. While the battery is well protected, drivers are often concerned about the vehicle’s underside hitting bumps or uneven roads. Longer wheelbases, which are common in EVs, can also increase the chances of bottoming out on steep ramps and raised speed breakers.
For buyers looking for an electric SUV with 200 mm or more ground clearance, these six models currently available in Nepal stand out.
The Jaecoo J6T offers the highest ground clearance on the list at 225 mm (unladen). Introduced in Nepal a few months ago, the electric SUV is sold by SPG Automobiles at Rs. 6.999 million.
The iCAUR V23, also distributed by SPG Automobiles, provides 210 mm of ground clearance. The compact electric SUV has been on sale in Nepal for about six months and is priced at Rs. 5.099 million.
Mahindra’s BE 6 comes with 207 mm of ground clearance. The sporty electric SUV is available in multiple variants, with prices starting from Rs. 5.7 million, offered by Agni Incorporated.
The Mahindra XEV 9e also features 207 mm of ground clearance. Positioned as the brand’s premium electric SUV, it is available in several variants, with the entry-level model priced from Rs. 6.9 million.
Hyundai’s Creta Electric offers 200 mm of ground clearance. Manufactured in India, the electric SUV is available in multiple variants in Nepal through Laxmi Intercontinental, with prices starting at Rs. 5.196 million.
Completing the list is the BYD Atto 2, one of Nepal’s best-selling electric SUVs. The model offers 200 mm of ground clearance and is priced at Rs. 4.89 million through official distributor Cimex Inc. It also has the highest ground clearance among BYD’s EV lineup currently available in the Nepali market.
