KATHMANDU: The government has decided to keep tax rates on electric vehicles (EVs) unchanged for the upcoming fiscal year 2025/26.

Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel made the announcement while presenting the national budget during a joint session of the federal parliament on Thursday.

He stated that the decision aims to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country.

Amid earlier speculation of a possible tax hike, EV traders had rushed to import around 5,300 additional units in the last one and a half months.

The government’s move to maintain current tax rates is expected to reassure the market and encourage further adoption of electric vehicles.
