KATHMANDU: The government has urged citizens and institutions to adopt work-from-home practices and increase the use of EVs as fuel prices continue to rise.

The move comes alongside a decision to reduce customs duties on petroleum products in an effort to ease economic pressure.

Speaking about the Cabinet decisions made on Tuesday, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal said the government is encouraging reduced fuel consumption through alternative mobility and remote working arrangements.

Authorities have also indicated that an odd-even vehicle rule could be introduced if fuel supply pressure worsens.

The Cabinet also approved a 50 percent waiver on customs and infrastructure development duties applied to the import of petrol, diesel, and kerosene. The measure aims to provide relief as global fuel prices surge following escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Fuel prices in Nepal have risen sharply in recent weeks. Despite the tax reduction, immediate price relief for consumers remains uncertain.
