KATHMANDU: Honda’s highly successful commuter bike, Shine, is set to be launched in an electric version.
The Shine, which is immensely popular in India as well as Nepal, will be introduced as Honda’s first electric motorcycle to be manufactured in India, as per Indian media reports.
Honda has reportedly filed a patent in India for its first electric motorcycle. Along with the patent images, some details about the bike’s design have also been revealed by media outlets.
As per the patent images, the Shine Electric will feature two swappable batteries and a compact electric motor. The batteries will be placed in the area typically reserved for the fuel tank, while the compact motor is fitted below in the section traditionally occupied by the engine.
Honda is expected to use the same chassis frame as the regular Shine for the electric variant. However, some components will be modified. The bike will also feature updated graphics and design changes.
Although Honda has not officially announced any details, the leaked patent images suggest that the company is moving forward with a serious plan for Shine’s electric variant.
