Honda’s 2025 imports led by Dio scooters in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Honda continues to be a strong brand in Nepal’s two-wheeler market, but its 2025 import figures show a heavy dependence on scooters especially the Dio, while motorcycle imports remain relatively weak.

According to import data up to December 15, 2025, Honda imported a total of 43,704 units of motorcycles and scooters combined. Of this, Dio scooters alone accounted for 35,117 units, representing more than 80 percent of Honda’s total imports for the year.

Syakar Trading, the authorized distributor of Honda in Nepal, offers the Honda Dio in both 110cc and 125cc variants. Apart from Dio, only one unit of Activa 125 was imported during the year, highlighting Honda’s strong but narrow scooter-focused portfolio.

In contrast, Honda’s motorcycle segment remains underperforming. The company currently sells models such as SP 125, Shine 125, XR 190, NX, and CRF in Nepal. Combined imports of all motorcycle models stood at just 8,586 units in 2025.

The SP 125 was the highest-imported motorcycle with 5,758 units, followed by the Shine 125 at 1,840 units. Other models recorded very limited import volumes, with XR 190 at 854 units, NX at 120 units, CRF at just 12 units, and only 2 units of the 125cc moped imported during the year.

Notably, imports of several popular Honda motorcycles have dropped to zero. Models such as Unicorn, X-Blade, and Hornet, which have traditionally performed well as family motorcycles in Nepal, were not imported at all in 2025.

Similarly, imports of the Honda CB 350 series, which compete in the mid-size motorcycle segment, have also stopped.

While Honda maintains a dominant position in the scooter segment, largely driven by the Dio, its shrinking motorcycle portfolio and limited imports suggest a weakening presence in that category.

Unless new models are introduced or popular nameplates return, Honda’s motorcycle market share in Nepal may continue to face pressure despite strong overall brand recognition.
