KATHMANDU: Hyundai plans to introduce humanoid robots at its vehicle factory in Georgia, USA, starting around 2028. The move is part of the company’s effort to modernize manufacturing while responding to demands for more local production.
The robots will be based on the Boston Dynamics Atlas humanoid. In the early stage, they will handle repetitive and risky tasks on the production line, such as moving and arranging parts, to reduce physical strain on human workers.
By 2030, Hyundai expects the robots to take on more complex assembly work once their safety and performance are fully tested.

Atlas is designed with human-like hands, touch sensors, and can lift up to 50 kg. Hyundai says the robots will not fully replace workers. Humans will still be needed to train, operate, and supervise the machines.
This plan is part of Hyundai’s broader focus on “physical AI,” which combines robotics and smart automation to improve efficiency across its global manufacturing plants.
