KATHMANDU: Beijing Hyundai, the joint venture between Chinese automaker BAIC Motor and South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Company, is set to launch the new Hyundai Elexio electric vehicle (EV) in the Chinese market, equipped with an LFP blade battery developed by BYD’s subsidiary FinDreams.
First revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show in April, the Elexio is expected to officially debut within the third quarter of 2025. The company has also announced plans to launch plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions of the Elexio over the next two years.
The Elexio SUV is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP global modular EV platform. The five-seater model manufactured by Beijing Hyundai measures 4,615 mm long, 1,875 mm wide and 1,673 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.
It will be available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive options. The front motor delivers 160 kW of power, while the rear motor adds another 73 kW.
Although the company has not disclosed the exact battery size, it is expected to offer a CLTC range of up to 700 kilometers on a single charge.
The starting price of the Elexio is estimated to be around $20,000.
