KATHMANDU: LG Innotek has developed the world’s first 5G New Radio Non-Terrestrial Network (NR-NTN) communication module for motor vehicles.
According to the Korea Times, this advanced technology enables cars to connect to satellites via 5G, allowing faster data transmission, enhanced location tracking and improved support for autonomous driving.
Unlike older systems that rely on slower narrowband networks, LG’s module uses Low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide high-speed, low-latency communication which is crucial for the data demands of next-generation vehicles.
LG has said that mass production of the module is expected to begin in early 2026. LG Innotek, an electronic component manufacturer of LG Group, is currently collaborating with automakers in North America and Japan.
This is LG Innotek’s third-generation 5G module and builds on LG’s experience in vehicle communication technologies since 2005.
The global market for 5G-equipped vehicles is projected to grow from 4 million units in 2024 to 75 million by 2032.
