KATHMANDU: Maruti Suzuki is set to boost its electric vehicle production with a dedicated EV assembly line at its Gujarat plant.
The new line, aimed at increasing capacity for both domestic sales and exports, is expected to be operational by July, according to Financial Express.
Internally referred to as ‘Production D’, the fourth line will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 units. With this addition, the plant’s total capacity will increase from 750,000 units to 1 million units per year. The facility currently operates three lines; A, B, and C.
The new line will exclusively manufacture the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and the Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella. At present, both EV models are produced alongside internal combustion engine vehicles, which has created production constraints.
Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), said the company is facing temporary production challenges due to capacity balancing. He added that the situation is expected to improve after July, and the company will work to maintain lower waiting periods.
