KATHMANDU: The MG S5 electric SUV, which went on sale in Nepal in the first week of March, has created significant buzz in the Nepali automobile market.
The S5, which is the most affordable car in its segment, stands out among its competitors also because of its features. Import data also substantiates this claim.
Within just three months of its launch, 1,052 units of the S5 have been imported into Nepal.
The feature-loaded car has captivated many, leading to bulk purchases by corporate buyers, with some acquiring 5 to 7 vehicles at once.
Shekhar Golchha, chairman of the Golchha Group, a long-time player in the automobile business, said, the S5 is the best electric SUV in Nepal in terms of price. “I have already purchased 6-7 units for my office,” he added.
According to Paramount Motors, the authorized distributor for MG in Nepal, nearly 50% of the imported vehicles have already been sold. “We have sold most of the vehicles imported until April. The units that arrived in May are still available,” said Sunil Bahadur Kshetry, General Manager of Paramount Motors. “We are receiving excellent bookings and are thrilled with the consumer response.”
Before the official sales began in March, Paramount had brought only three units of the MG S5. It imported 54 units in March, 376 in April and 619 in May.
