KATHMANDU: MG Windsor EV, produced by JSW MG India, has been a successful model in the Indian market. Although it has been available in Nepal for nearly 10 months, its sales had not gained strong momentum.

Now, with GO Automobiles taking responsibility for official sales and distribution, the Windsor EV appears to be a crossover model positioned between an MPV and SUV. Its cabin feels spacious because of its crossover design.

The Windsor EV is currently available in three variants in Nepal and appears suitable for local road conditions. However, many people have questioned its front-end design. The two-step bonnet design gives it a different appearance compared to other vehicles.

The MG Windsor measures 4,295 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,677 mm in height. It comes with 186 mm of ground clearance, making it easier to drive on roads with potholes and uneven surfaces.

We tested the MG Windsor around the Kathmandu Valley and nearby hilly areas. During the drive, the vehicle delivered good performance on light off-road sections and uphill roads. Based on our driving experience, the different aspects of the Windsor EV are discussed below.

The 5-seater Windsor EV looks like it was designed mainly for carrying passengers. Available in the Compact Utility Vehicle (CUV) segment, it offers foldable rear seats and more than 600 liters of boot space, making it practical for long journeys.

Built for streets and highways

Since we tested the vehicle around the valley area, we could not experience long-distance highway driving. However, based on the driving experience, the Windsor feels suitable for both city roads and highways.

The vehicle was tested on pothole-filled roads, winding roads, and smooth highways. The Windsor performed well across different road conditions.

The initial acceleration response, braking system, and suspension setup feel well-balanced. While driving through sharp corners at higher speeds, slight body roll can be felt, but the tires provide good support.

The Windsor EV comes with a 100 kW electric motor producing 200 Nm of peak torque. Its performance on smooth roads feels impressive.

MG has equipped the Windsor with Starstrike LED headlights and Smartflow tail lights. These features improve the vehicle’s appearance and provide better visibility during night driving.

Battery and charging

The MG Windsor comes with a 38 kWh battery pack. In real road conditions, the battery can deliver more than 260 km of range.

The battery supports up to 50 kW DC fast charging and also supports a 7 kW AC fast charger.

Comfort

The strongest feature of any vehicle is not always the seats, but the MG Windsor stands out with its seating comfort. It comes with Aero Lounge seats, which feel premium and comfortable.

The vehicle gets a 15.6-inch infotainment screen, physical buttons for AC controls, and ventilated front seats. These features improve comfort for both the driver and passengers.

Rear passengers get a large panoramic glass roof, allowing them to enjoy the outside view. The rear legroom and headroom are also among the strong points of the vehicle.

Because of its passenger-focused comfort, many buyers may prefer the Windsor as a vehicle with a driver rather than a car they drive themselves.

Conclusion

The Windsor EV is a complete package that passengers may enjoy more than drivers.

With practical range, spacious interiors, and feature-loaded technology, the Windsor can become a suitable model for both highway travel and daily city driving.

GO Automobiles is selling the MG Windsor in three variants. The Excite variant is priced at Rs 3.975 million, the Exclusive variant at Rs 4.249 million, and the Essence variant at Rs 4.499 million.

As the Windsor is an Indian-made EV, availability of parts and after-sales support is expected to be easier.
