The rates were finalized during a cabinet meeting on August 10, 2025. Charges will depend on the type of vehicle and travel direction, with lower rates for those exiting Kathmandu.

Cars, vans and jeeps will pay Rs 65 when entering and Rs 60 when leaving.

Minibuses and mini trucks will be charged Rs 115 to enter and Rs 80 to exit. For buses and trucks, the fee will be Rs 260 to enter and Rs 200 to exit. Heavy vehicles will pay Rs 600 to enter and Rs 250 to exit.

The tunnel will not allow two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and fuel tankers, vehicles carrying weapons or explosives and non-motorized vehicles.

Oversized vehicles above 18 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width, or 4.25 meters in height will also be banned.

Over 92% of the construction is complete. The main tunnel is 2,688 meters long, with an emergency tunnel of 2,557 meters. Ventilation, safety systems, CCTV, lighting, bridges and the Balambu flyover have been completed.

The project is being built by Japan’s Hazma Ando JV and an international operator will be hired for its management.
