KATHMANDU: A prototype of an upcoming compact SUV from Hyundai was recently spotted testing near the brand’s Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai, according to Rushlane.
The images have raised speculation on whether the model is the Exter facelift or a new Bayon-based compact crossover.
The Exter has been around since 2023 and is expected to receive a midlife refresh in the coming years. However, this test mule looks quite different. While the Exter has a tallboy design, this vehicle looks more like a jacked-up hatchback.
Hyundai has plans to introduce a new crossover in India that will compete with the Maruti Fronx. It will fill the gap between the Exter and the Venue.
Hence, there is a good chance that this might be the India-spec Hyundai Bayon.
The carmaker has also confirmed a made-in-India electric compact SUV that is scheduled for launch in 2027. It is expected to be based on the E-GMP (K) platform. It will compete with the Tata Punch.ev.
