KATHMANDU: Mercedes-Benz has revealed an all-new GLB, and for now, it will be sold only as an electric vehicle.

The updated model keeps its boxy SUV shape but brings major changes in design and technology. It will be offered in both 5-seat and 7-seat layouts and effectively replaces the outgoing EQB. Hybrid versions are expected to join the lineup at a later stage.

Two electric versions have been confirmed. The GLB 250+ with EQ Technology uses an 85 kWh battery and an 800-volt electric system. It features a rear-mounted motor producing 268 hp. Mercedes says it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. The claimed driving range is up to 630 km.

Above it sits the GLB 350 4Matic with EQ Technology. This version adds a second motor on the front axle. Total output rises to 349 hp. It can reach 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. Driving range is rated at up to 615 km on a single charge.

Mercedes has also confirmed that a lower-priced electric version will arrive next year. A mild-hybrid model with 48-volt technology will follow. Buyers will get multiple power outputs and choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

The exterior gets a bold new look. A large front grille dominates the nose, paired with new headlights that use star-shaped daytime running lights. A full-width light bar connects the lamps. At the rear, the SUV features vertical taillights linked by another light bar. The lighting signature is inspired by the Vision EQXX concept.

Inside, the GLB moves heavily toward a screen-focused cabin. The optional Mercedes Super-screen setup includes a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch main touchscreen, and a 14-inch passenger screen. The dashboard is flatter and more minimal than before.

The SUV runs the latest fourth-generation MBUX system. It uses artificial intelligence from Microsoft and Google. The graphics are powered by the Unity Game Engine. The system also includes an MBUX Virtual Assistant.

Pricing has so far been confirmed only for Germany. The GLB 250+ EV starts at approximately USD 68,800, while the GLB 350 4Matic EV starts at around USD 72,400. Mercedes has not yet announced prices for other markets.
