KATHMANDU: Toyota has achieved a major milestone in India’s electrified vehicle market. The company has sold over 300,000 hybrid vehicles in the country, reflecting growing demand for self-charging hybrid technology.

Toyota currently offers hybrid powertrains in models such as the Urban Cruiser Hyrider, Innova Hycross, Camry, and Vellfire. These vehicles have helped expand hybrid adoption in the Indian market.

Globally, Toyota has sold more than 38 million electrified vehicles. The company claims this has contributed to reducing over 197 million tons of CO2 emissions.

Toyota’s hybrid system combines a petrol engine with an electric motor. The system can switch between or use both power sources together. This allows the vehicle to run in electric mode for a significant amount of time, improving fuel efficiency.

The self-charging system uses regenerative braking and engine power to charge the battery. This removes the need for external charging, making hybrids more convenient for daily use.
