KATHMANDU: Vehicle owners in Bagmati Province no longer need to carry a physical blue book or driving license, as the provincial government has officially launched digital versions of both documents.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli formally launched the services on Friday by linking the blue book’s QR code to the Nagarik App – the citizen portal.

With the system online, users can now display their vehicle’s blue book and driving license directly on their smartphones via the Nagarik App.

Earlier, only the digital driving license was available on the app. Now, the blue book has also been integrated.

According to the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Transport of Bagmati Province, users can also renew their blue book, pay vehicle taxes and access other vehicle-related services online.

The EDL system also enables drivers to apply for a new license, renew an existing one, add vehicle categories or request a duplicate license—all through digital platforms.

The government has been gradually digitizing vehicle-related services. A few months ago, traffic police launched an online-based system to pay fines, ending the need to visit traffic police offices for the purpose.

Some 2.3 million motor vehicles are registered in the Bagmati Province.

The ministry has said that efforts to digitize license plates, vehicle documents and registration records are also underway.
