KATHMANDU: Sipradi Electric Vehicles and Yatri Design Studio have unveiled the Yatri P2 electric scooter in Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle officially unveiled the scooter at a program held on Monday.
The Yatri P2 is the first product developed under the partnership between Sipradi and Yatri. The scooter has been developed and manufactured in Nepal, including its research, design and development.
Yatri said the P2 was developed after a long period of testing and continuous improvements. The company has been working on the scooter for around two years.
The chassis went through multiple rounds of design and testing. Designers converted concepts into prototypes and tested them on roads and in laboratories. The results were then used to improve the design.
During the early development stage, Yatri used aluminum and 3D-printed temporary jigs and fixtures. Around 15 to 20 prototypes of the same design were built for testing and research.
The company said the process helped improve both the chassis design and manufacturing process. The design was repeatedly refined to make it easier to manufacture and more practical for mass production.
Yatri says the chassis development went through around four major iterations. Each stage involved prototype production, testing and further improvements.
For commercial production, the company developed separate multi-stage jigs and fixtures. The production process uses sheet metal, solid stock and tubular members, which are formed into the required shapes.
The chassis components are then assembled and welded using different fixtures. Each stage goes through quality checks before moving to the next stage.
According to Yatri, the fourth and final chassis iteration shown during the unveiling is close to the final design that will be used in the P2. However, minor changes could still be made before commercial production.
The P2 uses a mid-drive PMSM motor that produces up to 10 kW of power and 315 Nm of wheel torque. It has a top speed of 90 km/h.
The scooter will be available with three lithium-ion battery options. The 3.0 kWh battery offers a standard range of 90 km. The 3.7 kWh version has a range of 112 km, while the 5.2 kWh battery offers up to 157 km of standard range.
