KATHMANDU: Leapmotor has announced that its D19 SUV has completed the world’s first real-world test of a dual tire blowout on the same side in extreme ice and snow conditions, according to Chinese media reports.

The test was conducted at speeds of 80 km/h and 120 km/h with a full load of six passengers. According to the company, the vehicle remained stable and under control after the tire burst and came to a smooth stop without veering off course.

Leapmotor said the stability was achieved due to its LMC (Leapmotor Integrated Motion Control) system. The system detects a tire burst within 200 milliseconds. It then raises the air suspension on the affected side to level the vehicle body.

The Leapmotor D19 is built on the brand’s flagship D platform. It is offered in both BEV and EREV versions.

The EREV variant features all-wheel drive. It produces 400 kW of power and 7,850 Nm of wheel-end torque. It uses an 80.3 kWh battery from CATL and offers a CLTC electric-only range of 500 km.

The BEV version uses a 1000 V electric drive system. It delivers 540 kW of power and 8,770 Nm of wheel torque. With a 115 kWh battery pack, it offers a CLTC range of 720 km.

The D19 also features million-pixel DLP headlights and a full-width digital taillight display. Inside, it gets a large AR-HUD, digital instrument cluster, and a central touchscreen powered by Qualcomm processors.

The SUV measures 5,252 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. It is available in 6-seat and 7-seat layouts. The rear boot ranges from 337 liters to 2,677 liters. A 176-liter front trunk is also included.

Leapmotor opened pre-orders for the D19 on November 21, 2025. The model is expected to enter the market in April 2026.

In Nepal, Leapmotor vehicles are distributed by Shangrila Motors. The brand currently sells the C10, B10, and T03 models in the country.
