KATHMANDU: In Nepal’s auto market, crossing 500 units shortly after entry is considered a strong start. Chinese EV brand Leapmotor achieved that early traction, but its momentum has slowed significantly over the past year.
Sangria Motors introduced the brand with the C10 SUV, priced below Rs. 7 million. Positioned as a large, feature-rich electric SUV at a competitive price, the C10 quickly gained attention. A total of 359 units have been imported so far. However, imports have remained completely halted since May 2025.
Leapmotor entered Nepal in September 2024. Despite flood-related disruptions along the China border routes, the company managed to import 120 units initially. By May 2025, total C10 imports reached 359 units, but no additional shipments have followed since.
The B10 SUV, launched in August 2025 in a competitive segment, has struggled to gain traction. Only 87 units have been imported as of mid-May.

Similarly, the T03 hatchback has failed to attract strong interest despite its feature-packed offering. Imports stand at just 74 units.
In total, Leapmotor has brought in around 520 units across all models.
What makes Leapmotor stand out
Leapmotor’s key advantage lies in offering strong specifications at competitive pricing. Features such as large infotainment displays, sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, and heat pump are standard highlights.

The brand also retains higher motor outputs compared to rivals. The C10 comes with a 160 kW motor, while the T03 offers 70 kW. The vehicles are noted for smooth driving, good ground clearance, and spacious cabins.
Global backing from Stellantis has further supported improvements in build quality and overall refinement.
Where Leapmotor falls short
Despite strong products, Leapmotor has struggled with brand positioning in Nepal. Marketing efforts have remained limited, with no clear messaging to differentiate the brand.

Concerns over software issues in global markets were not clearly addressed locally, affecting consumer confidence. The ADAS system has also been viewed as overly intrusive by some users.
What comes next
Shangrila Motors is now preparing to introduce the A10 SUV, expected to debut at the upcoming NAIMA Mobility Expo. The new model is likely to target a lower price segment while maintaining a strong feature list.
Leapmotor’s future in Nepal will largely depend on how the A10 performs in a highly competitive EV market.
