KATHMANDU: Audi is preparing to unveil its most affordable electric vehicle, the A2 e-tron, later this fall. The new model will mark the return of the A2 after more than 25 years and will serve as an entry-level EV in the brand’s global lineup.
Audi CEO Gernot Dollner confirmed the launch, stating that the A2 e-tron will make entry into the Audi ecosystem more accessible. The model will be positioned below the Q4 e-tron, with an expected starting price of under $40,000.
The A2 e-tron will be produced at Audi’s Ingolstadt facility in Germany, alongside the Q6 e-tron. The company aims to expand access to premium electric mobility while strengthening its EV portfolio.
In terms of design, the new A2 e-tron adopts a crossover-hatchback profile, moving away from the original model’s rounded shape. Teaser images and recent spy shots suggest a modern design with cues inspired by the earlier A2.
The EV is expected to be built on Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, shared with models like the VW ID.3. It is likely to offer similar battery options, including 58 kWh and 79 kWh packs, with an estimated WLTP range of up to 600 km.
Audi is positioning the A2 e-tron to compete in the entry-level premium EV segment, targeting the space previously occupied by models like the BMW i3. The launch is part of Audi’s broader strategy to expand its EV lineup, with the A2 e-tron expected to play a key role from 2026 onwards.
