KATHMANDU: American ride-hailing company Uber has officially started operations in Nepal.

The company had been providing services informally since early May. It formally launched its operations on Friday.

With this launch, Nepal becomes Uber’s 11th market in the Asia-Pacific region. The company is offering both two-wheeler and four-wheeler ride services in the country.

For four-wheelers, Uber has introduced Uber Go and Uber Comfort. For two-wheelers, it is providing the Uber Bike service.

According to the company, both local users and international visitors can now access transportation through a single app. The service is expected to make travel more convenient for tourists visiting Nepal.

Dominic Taylor, APAC Mobility RGM at Uber, said Nepal’s entry marks an important milestone in the company’s global expansion. He added that rapid urbanization, growing digital adoption, and a rising tourism sector make Nepal an attractive market.

Uber has started operations in Kathmandu and plans to gradually expand to other cities across the country.

The company currently operates in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Nepal’s ride-sharing market already includes platforms such as Pathao, inDrive, and Yango. Uber’s arrival is expected to increase competition and provide passengers with more transportation choices.
