KATHMANDU: NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal (NADA) and the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office have agreed to work together on traffic management and awareness programs.
A delegation led by NADA President Surendra Kumar Upreti met with newly appointed Chief of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office Suresh Prasad Kafle on Monday. The meeting discussed various challenges related to traffic management in the Valley.
Chief Kafle said the Traffic Police Office and NADA should move forward through creative and long-term cooperation. He suggested that NADA conduct traffic awareness programs in Kathmandu and take initiatives for AI-based traffic light systems.
Kafle also raised concerns about the use of high-capacity motorcycles inside cities, saying such motorcycles are mainly suitable for hilly areas. He added that accident rates involving scooters are comparatively lower than motorcycles.
He also proposed that every vehicle buyer, service center, and newly licensed driver should receive a short traffic training session of around one hour from the Traffic Police Office. He said such training could support better traffic management.
NADA President Upreti highlighted the association’s previous cooperation with the Traffic Police Office. He informed that NADA will organize special programs in Kathmandu during its 50th Annual General Meeting week from June 27 to July 3.
Upreti requested support from the Traffic Police Office to make the programs more effective. He also informed that NADA will conduct traffic awareness campaigns through vehicle stickers.
