KATHMANDU: Kia is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the launch of the Syros EV. The all-electric compact SUV is expected to debut by the end of July. It is likely to rival the Tata Nexon.ev in India’s fast-growing mass-market EV segment.

According to media reports, some Kia dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings ahead of the official launch.

The Syros EV is expected to retain the distinctive exterior styling of its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, with subtle EV-specific updates including a slimmer front grille and redesigned bumpers. Inside, the SUV is likely to feature a familiar cabin layout with a dual-screen setup and a two-tone three-spoke steering wheel.

The electric SUV is expected to be offered with two battery pack options, 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh, similar to the recently launched Carens Clavis EV. The smaller battery is expected to deliver a driving range of up to 420 km, while the larger pack could offer up to 520 km on a single charge.

Both variants are expected to be powered by a single electric motor mounted on the front axle.

With its competitive range and feature-rich package, the Syros EV is expected to strengthen Kia’s presence in the affordable electric SUV segment and could also be considered for the Nepali market in the future.
