KATHMANDU : The adoption of electric vehicles is growing rapidly in Nepal, with the country emerging as one of the leading EV markets globally. According to 2025 data, EVs accounted for around 72% of total vehicle sales in Nepal.

As demand for EVs continues to rise, more brands are entering the market. Nepal now has more than four dozen EV brands, although only around a dozen have established a strong presence.

Among the successful brands is Nammi, a sub-brand of China’s state-owned Dongfeng Motor Corporation. Nammi has gained popularity in Nepal with vehicles designed for local road conditions, modern styling, advanced technology, competitive pricing and an expanding after-sales network.

Nammi entered Nepal in 2024 and has recorded significant growth within two years. More than 2,000 Nammi electric vehicles are now running on Nepali roads, highlighting the brand’s growing acceptance among customers.

Nammi’s authorized distributor in Nepal, MAW Group, has also played a key role in establishing the brand. With around six decades of experience in Nepal’s automobile industry, MAW has used its market presence and customer network to strengthen confidence in Nammi.

The company has introduced models based on changing market trends and customer requirements. In 2024, it introduced the Nammi VIGO Box, an urban-focused electric hatchback designed as a practical and modern family EV. The model helped create a positive impact in the hatchback segment.

Following the success of the VIGO Box, MAW introduced the Nammi VIGO in 2025, targeting Nepal’s rapidly growing electric SUV segment. The model has since emerged as one of the popular EVs in its category.

The VIGO has also been tested on challenging routes and destinations across Nepal. Its performance on difficult roads has further strengthened the brand’s image for durability and capability.

According to the company, Nammi’s success is driven by Dongfeng’s engineering and technology, combined with MAW’s market strategy and customer-focused approach.

MAW says it is not focused only on vehicle sales. The company is also working to build an EV ecosystem in Nepal by expanding charging infrastructure and sales and service networks across major cities and highways.

The company has also introduced a long battery and motor warranty to provide customers with greater confidence. Nammi vehicles come with a warranty of 11 years or 250,000 km, whichever comes first, on the battery and motor.
