KATHMANDU: Royal Enfield has launched the new Himalayan 440 in the Indian market at an introductory price of 229,000 Indian rupees (ex-showroom). The new model is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the Himalayan 450.
The Himalayan 440 is based on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 411’s design, which was introduced around a decade ago. While the overall styling and features remain similar, the new motorcycle gets a newer engine.
The Himalayan 440 uses the same J-series engine platform as the Royal Enfield Scram 440. It is powered by a 443cc single-cylinder, air-cooled Sherpa engine that produces 25.4 PS of maximum power and 34 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox.
The motorcycle comes with round ORVMs, a tall windscreen, LED headlight, digital-analog instrument cluster, Tripper navigation pod and a Type-C USB charging port.
For safety, the Himalayan 440 gets disc brakes at both ends with dual-channel ABS. The rear ABS can be switched off when required. It also comes with wire-spoke wheels and long-travel suspension, featuring telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.
The motorcycle uses a half-duplex split-cradle frame and is designed for touring. Accessories such as panniers, a top box, touring seat, handguards and engine protection are also available.
The Himalayan 440 follows a simple and practical design aimed at everyday use as well as long-distance riding. It is expected to appeal to riders looking for the familiar Himalayan design and a torquey riding experience at a lower price than the Himalayan 450.
