KATHMANDU: Nearly 67 percent of vehicles operating in the Kathmandu Valley have failed to meet pollution standards.
The issue came to light during a vehicle inspection conducted at Thankot on Sunday. The inspection was carried out jointly by the Environment Department, Babarmahal, and the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
Out of 60 vehicles checked, 40 were found emitting smoke above the permitted level. Traffic police said action has been taken against the violating vehicles in line with existing laws.
The traffic police have urged vehicle owners and drivers to regularly check the condition of their vehicles. They warned that vehicles emitting excessive smoke contribute to air pollution, harm public health, and increase the risk of road accidents.
