KATHMANDU: Traffic police in the Kathmandu Valley have intensified enforcement against road violations, booking 2,550 drivers in a single day. The action was carried out across Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur, with authorities collecting more than Rs 1.72 million in fines.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, 102 drivers were booked for drunk driving, while 207 were penalized for speeding and 140 for red-light violations. Similarly, 142 ride-sharing related violations, 56 lane discipline violations, and 108 cases of unnecessary horn use were recorded.
Traffic police also took action against 35 vehicles with mechanical issues and 14 vehicles violating pollution standards. A total of 1,746 cases were recorded under other traffic violations.
The enforcement campaign focuses on controlling major road offenses, including drunk driving, overspeeding, unsafe driving practices, vehicle document issues, and violations of traffic rules. Authorities have also increased monitoring of vehicle conditions and compliance with legal requirements.
Traffic police have urged drivers to follow road safety rules, carry valid documents, maintain their vehicles properly, and avoid unnecessary violations while driving in the valley.
