KATHMANDU: More than two dozen Chinese vehicle brands have entered the Nepali market in recent years. Some have established a strong presence, while others are still trying to build their position.
Many brands have entered with only one or two models. However, brands such as BYD, MG, Deepal, Omoda, Jaecoo, Dongfeng Nammi and Leapmotor have expanded their product line-ups.
The rapid arrival of new models has also increased competition. Nepali buyers are increasingly looking for newer designs, better technology and updated features. This has put pressure on brands and distributors to introduce new products regularly.
The product cycle in Nepal’s EV market is also becoming shorter. Brands that fail to update their line-up may find it difficult to maintain their market position.
Which Chinese EV brands are available in Nepal?
BYD remains the biggest Chinese EV brand in Nepal. It has been among the country’s strongest-selling car brands in recent years. Its premium brand, Denza, is also available in Nepal.
The Chery Group has a growing presence in the market through Omoda, Jaecoo and iCAUR. Chery’s products are also available, including the Chery Q. The iCAUR range includes models such as the iCAUR V23 and iCAUR V27.
MG is another major name in Nepal’s EV market. The brand has been selling electric vehicles in Nepal since 2019 and has built a strong customer base.
Deepal is another established Chinese EV brand in Nepal. It is part of the Changan group. Changan and its Nevo range are also represented in the market. The Deepal and Nevo naming structure can vary by market, so the two should not be treated as completely unrelated manufacturers.
Dongfeng Nammi is another notable EV brand. The Nammi Box, also known as the Nammi 01 in some markets, is among its products available in Nepal.
Leapmotor has also entered the Nepali market with electric models and is expanding its presence.
Other Chinese brands available in Nepal include Wuling, Hongqi, Geely, Skywell, Arcfox, BAIC, GAC Aion, Smart, Maxus, Seres, BAW, Kaiyi, XPeng and Zeekr. Several of these brands are positioned in the premium or emerging EV segments.
The Great Wall Motor (GWM) group is also present in Nepal. Its products include the ORA and Haval ranges. The ORA 5, for example, has entered the Nepali market as an electric SUV.
JMEV is another Chinese EV brand available in Nepal. Riddara is also present in the electric pickup segment.
Nepal’s Chinese EV market has become increasingly crowded. The 2026 NADA Auto Show itself featured brands such as BYD, Deepal, Avatr, Geely, MG, GWM, Omoda, Jaecoo, Leapmotor, and Skywell.
The growing number of brands gives customers more choices. However, it also creates a major challenge for distributors.
Sales, after-sales service, spare parts availability and regular model updates will be important for brands looking to remain in Nepal for the long term.
The small-car segment also has brands such as Honri Boma, Enniu, Hauzi, Linktour, Jinpeng, Henri Volts and Wuling, among others.
