KATHMANDU: Several Chinese electric vehicle brands that have achieved strong sales and popularity in their domestic market are still absent from Nepal. Most of these brands operate in the premium segment, making their vehicles relatively expensive for the Nepali market.
Another key reason is that many of these companies have not focused on right-hand-drive production. Although some Nepali business groups have shown interest in bringing these brands to the country, high prices and limited right-hand-drive availability have delayed their entry.
Most of the brands on this list are startup automakers that are currently focused on larger and premium vehicles. As a result, smaller markets such as Nepal have not been a priority.
Nio
Nio is one of China’s most successful premium EV startups. The company is best known for its battery-swapping technology, which has helped accelerate EV adoption in China.
Nio’s lineup mainly consists of premium SUVs and sedans. The company has also introduced the Firefly hatchback as an entry-level model. Among the brands on this list, Firefly appears to have the highest possibility of entering Nepal in the near future.

Li Auto
Li Auto has become one of China’s most successful family SUV manufacturers. The company produces battery-electric vehicles and Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs).
Li Auto has not yet expanded into right-hand-drive markets, which is one of the main reasons its vehicles are unavailable in Nepal. However, several Nepali business groups have reportedly shown interest in securing the brand.

AITO
AITO is a premium EV brand jointly developed by Huawei and Seres. The company focuses on large and powerful SUVs and has emerged as one of China’s fastest-growing EV brands.
Like Li Auto, AITO has not yet introduced right-hand-drive models, limiting its expansion into markets such as Nepal.

Voyah
Voyah is the premium vehicle division of Dongfeng Motor. The brand is known for its premium SUVs and MPVs and has already expanded into several international markets.
Despite its global ambitions, Voyah does not appear to have immediate plans to enter Nepal.

Hongqi
Hongqi is one of China’s oldest automobile manufacturers and is widely recognized as a luxury vehicle brand. The company offers electric vehicles as well as plug-in hybrid models.
So far, no company has announced plans to officially introduce Hongqi vehicles in Nepal.

Xiaomi
Xiaomi Auto is the newest major EV startup in China and has gained significant attention since entering the automotive sector. The company currently offers the SU7 sedan and the YU7 SUV.
With strong demand and growing global interest, Xiaomi is among the brands most likely to enter Nepal in the coming years.
