KATHMANDU: The local administration of Kavre has imposed a month-long nighttime traffic ban on the BP Highway, the shortest route connecting Kathmandu to the Koshi and Madhesh Provinces, due to increased monsoon-related risks.

Issuing a notice on Friday, the District Administration Office, Kavre, said vehicular movement on BP Highway will be restricted during the night hours for one month starting July 6.

A meeting of the District Security Committee held on Wednesday took the decision, taking into account the heightened risk of landslides and flooding caused by monsoon rains.

All vehicles heading toward Sindhuli via Kavrebhanjyang and Bhakundebesi will be prohibited from operating between 6:30 pm and 5:00 am.

As per the directive, all vehicles heading toward Sindhuli via Kavrebhanjyang and Bhakundebesi will be prohibited from operating between 6:30 pm and 5:00 am.

Earlier, a similar restriction had been enforced for 15 days starting June 20.

Last September’s floods in the Roshi River severely damaged the highway, with several sections completely washed away. The government has allocated Rs 10 billion for its rehabilitation.
