KATHMANDU: Foxconn, the main assembler of Apple’s iPhone has revealed its intention to introduce its inaugural in-house designed passenger electric vehicle (EV) to the North American market by 2025. This announcement was made during an automotive exhibition in Taipei, according to Nikkie Asia.

The Model C SUV, which is currently produced by Foxconn for a prominent Taiwanese automaker, will be modified to meet the specifications of the North American market.

The vehicle will be launched in collaboration with an undisclosed partner company.

Wu Junyi, Deputy General Manager and Head of Public Relations at Foxconn, remarked, “2025 will be a year of significant growth for Foxconn. The catalyst for this growth will be products related to artificial intelligence, and we also have considerable expectations for the EV sector.”

Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd., has also confirmed that it is in ongoing negotiations with Mitsubishi Motors regarding the supply of EVs for the Oceania region. A definitive announcement is anticipated from Mitsubishi if the partnership is finalized.

The Model B crossover EV, associated with the Mitsubishi Motors collaboration, is set to be delivered to a major Taiwanese automaker later this year.

Foxconn currently has EV production facilities in both Taiwan and the United States. Its U.S. facility, located in Ohio, was acquired from a domestic startup. In light of developments in the U.S. trade policy, Wu emphasized that “local production and consumption of EVs will be essential.”

In another development, Foxconn is close to finalizing an agreement to provide electric buses to Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation. The proposed lineup features the Model T bus and Model U microbus, both developed by Foxconn.

If this agreement is completed, it would represent the first electric bus offering in Mitsubishi Fuso’s product lineup. Both companies are exploring the possibility of establishing a joint entity to oversee the bus operations under the Mitsubishi Fuso brand.

This contract signifies Foxconn’s second collaboration in electric vehicle supply with a Japanese automotive producer, succeeding its agreement with Mitsubishi Motors in May 2025.

Foxconn’s continued expansion in the electric mobility sector aligns with its broader strategy to diversify beyond consumer electronics manufacturing.
