BYD secures 91st spot in 2025 Fortune Global 500

KATHMANDU: Chinese automaker BYD has ranked 91st in the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, marking its first time among the top 100 companies globally. The company climbed from 143rd position in 2024 and has now remained on the list for four years in a row.

In 2024, BYD earned a revenue of USD 107.1 billion, growing 29% compared to the previous year. It also set a record by selling 4.27 million new energy vehicles (NEVs), up 41% year-on-year. This made BYD the global leader in NEV sales for the third year running.

The company’s focus on innovation has played a major role in its growth. USD 7.47 billion in research and development last year, which was more than its net profit. Over the past 14 years, its R&D spending has exceeded its annual profit in 13 of those years. Key technologies developed include the Blade Battery, DiSus suspension system and Megawatt Flash Charging.

In 2025, BYD also expanded its international presence. It sold over 470,000 vehicles overseas in the first half of the year. It set up a European headquarters in Hungary, started production in Brazil, and delivered its 90,000th NEV in Thailand. BYD’s vehicles are now available in 112 countries and regions.

The company says it will continue investing in advanced technology and global expansion. Its long-term goal remains clear: to support sustainability and “Cool the Earth by 1°C.”
