KATHMANDU: BYD has released the first official images of its upcoming flagship electric SUV and sedan, confirming their global debut in early 2026.

The new models will be launched under BYD’s Ocean Series as the Seal 08 Sedan and Sealion 08 SUV. Both vehicles are scheduled to arrive in the first quarter of 2026 and will sit at the top of the Ocean lineup as the brand’s most premium offerings.

The latest images suggest a clear move towards a more upmarket design. The Sealion 08 SUV features a boxy, upright profile, visually similar to luxury SUVs such as the Denza N8L from BYD’s premium sub-brand. Final specifications and pricing have not yet been disclosed.

BYD’s Ocean Series has traditionally focused on compact and mid-size EVs such as the Seagull, Dolphin, and Seal. In recent years, the company has expanded the lineup with larger SUVs, including the Sealion 07.

The Sealion 08 is expected to be larger than the Sealion 07, which measures 4,830 mm in length and is comparable in size to the Tesla Model Y.

The Seal 08 Sedan will also be positioned above the Seal 06 EV, which measures 4,720 mm in length, indicating a shift towards executive-class electric sedans within the Ocean brand.

In parallel, BYD is preparing to introduce new flagship EVs under its Dynasty Series. Teaser images of the Tang 9 SUV and Han 9 Sedan have already been released, with launches planned for the first half of 2026.

BYD sold more than 2.25 million battery-electric vehicles in 2025, outselling Tesla by over 600,000 units. With new flagship EVs, luxury models, pickups, and performance-oriented vehicles in the pipeline, the company is aiming to strengthen its global lead in 2026.

Following the image reveal, BYD stated, “A new era begins with bold advancements.” More details are expected in the coming months, according to Chinese media reports.
