KATHMANDU: Vehicles using the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola Tunnel Road will have to pay toll charges from October 31, 2026.

The Nagdhunga Tunnel Construction Project announced the decision through a public notice on Thursday, October 29. The tunnel has been providing free access to vehicles since its official opening on July 26, 2026.

Under the new arrangement, tolls will be collected at the entry points based on vehicle categories and direction of travel.

Cars and vans traveling towards Kathmandu will have to pay Rs 65, while vehicles traveling out of Kathmandu will pay Rs 60.

Similarly, minibuses and mini trucks will be charged Rs 115 when entering Kathmandu and Rs 80 when traveling out. Buses and trucks will pay Rs 260 towards Kathmandu and Rs 200 in the opposite direction.

Heavy vehicles will be charged Rs 600 when traveling towards Kathmandu and Rs 250 when traveling out.

The toll collection system will primarily use digital payments through N-Tag, a sticker-based Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. The sticker will be attached to the vehicle’s windshield, allowing the system to read it automatically and deduct the toll from the linked balance.

According to the Road Board Nepal, N-Tag cards can be obtained from Global IME Bank, Kumari Bank, Nabil Bank, Nepal Investment Mega Bank and Sanima Bank. Users can initially purchase cards loaded with Rs 1,000, Rs 2,000 or Rs 5,000.

QR code payments and cash will also be available during the initial phase of toll collection. The toll revenue will be deposited into the Road Board Nepal’s account daily.
