KATHMANDU: Chery is testing a new iCaur SUV in China, positioned above the V23. The model is widely referred to as the V25, though the name is not yet official.

Spy photos show the test vehicle in early development. Unlike the all-electric V23, the new SUV uses an extended-range powertrain. The brand is sold as iCar in China and iCaur in overseas markets due to trademark issues.

The design closely follows the V23. It features a boxy body and similar front and rear styling. However, the vehicle appears larger, taller, and has higher ground clearance.

The tyres do not appear to be off-road focused. Proportions suggest a longer wheelbase than the V23. Chinese media speculate a wheelbase of around 2,780 mm, compared to 2,735 mm for the V23. This has not been confirmed by Chery.

Exterior details point to a different powertrain. A fuel filler cap is visible on the left rear side. A temporary exhaust outlet can also be seen. Stickers on the windows confirm an extended-range system.

Interior images show a layout similar to the V23. The dashboard and seating look familiar. However, the cabin is not in final production form.

Powertrain details have not been announced. Chinese media compare it with the iCaur V27. That model uses a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with an electric motor. It produces 105 kW from the engine alone. Four-wheel-drive versions offer up to 335 kW combined. The V27 claims a 200 km electric-only range and over 1,000 km total range. These figures do not apply to the test vehicle.

In Nepal, Chery’s iCaur brand has already entered the market. The company launched the V23 electric lifestyle SUV. SPG Automobiles is the authorized distributor. The top variant is priced under Rs 4.7 million.
