KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management has been destroyed in a fire that broke out during the Gen G movement.

The fire on Tuesday engulfed the department’s main office in Min Bhavan. Offices of the directors, service sections and branches were affected. Documents, files, computers, furniture and vehicles inside the premises have been damaged.

The machine used for printing licenses and smart cards has also been destroyed. “Nothing has been saved except the building. Everywhere there is damage, and it is not possible to estimate the loss,” said an employee of the department.

The personalization center behind the office, which prints embossed number plates, has also been gutted. More than 500,000 printed plates and millions waiting to be printed were destroyed. The department’s server is currently down.
