KATHMANDU: Ford and Renault have officially teamed up to develop a new range of affordable electric vehicles for the European market.
The agreement marks a major step for both companies as they work to stay competitive against fast-growing, low-cost Chinese EV brands.
Under the partnership, Renault will manufacture two new Ford-branded small electric cars using its Ampere EV platform. Ford will handle the design, while Renault will oversee production at its plant in northern France. The first model is planned to arrive in European showrooms in 2028.
Both companies also signed a Letter of Intent to explore further collaboration on light commercial vehicles, an important segment for Ford in Europe.
In their official statements, Ford CEO Jim Farley said the partnership supports Ford’s goal to build a more efficient and future-ready business in the region. Renault executives added that combining strengths will help both brands respond faster to Europe’s rapidly changing EV market.

The move comes as Chinese automakers continue to expand aggressively in Europe with lower-priced electric models.
By working together, Ford and Renault aim to offer more competitive EV options while reducing development and production costs.
The new alliance signals a fresh chapter for Ford in Europe and adds momentum to Renault’s EV strategy, with both companies expecting the partnership to deliver strong, affordable products for everyday buyers in the years ahead.
