KATHMANDU: While the government kept tax rates unchanged for most of the electric vehicle (EVs) categories in the fiscal year 2025/26 budget, tax rates for electric double-cabin pickups have been slightly raised.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the change was introduced through the Financial Bill, 2025, by creating a new subheading (HS code) specifically for these vehicles.
So far, electric pickups have been cleared under a general customs classification. Now onwards, electric single-cab and double-cab pickups will be classified separately under new HS codes with different tax rates.
The decision will affect the prices of electric pickups like Riddara RD6 and the newly-launched Maxus eTerron 9.
Under the new classification, electric double-cab pickups, now listed under HS code 8704.60.32, will face a 20% customs duty and a 10% excise duty, up from the previous uniform rate of 15% customs and 5% excise duty applied to all EV pickups.
Electric single-cab pickups, now assigned HS code 8704.60.31, will continue to be taxed at the existing rate of 15% customs duty and 5% excise duty.
The decision will affect the prices of electric pickups like Riddara RD6 and the newly-launched Maxus eTerron 9.
