KATHMANDU: Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors (GWM) is venturing into the high-performance segment with an ambitious new supercar project aimed at rivaling the Ferrari SF90.
Wu Huixiao, the Chief Technology Officer of GWM, shared in an interview on the Chinese social media platform Weibo that the development of the supercar has been underway for the past five years.
The supercar will not be electric.
Although specific details of the vehicles have not been disclosed yet, Wu hinted that the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 may be too large for the new model. This has led to speculation that the company may be working on an entirely new engine or considering more compact alternatives such as the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 or the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid.
To meet global standards, GWM has brought in international experts to support the supercar’s development. The company is also assessing the use of carbon fiber materials. However, it has not yet confirmed whether these materials will feature in the final design.
GWM has established its presence in Nepal through its lineup of Ora electric vehicles, Haval SUVs, and GWM pickups.
The addition of a high-performance supercar could further elevate the brand’s profile and appeal among Nepali consumers, offering a glimpse into GWM’s evolving automotive ambitions.
