KATHMANDU: Jagdamba Motors, the official distributor for Malaysian automobile brand Proton, has unveiled plans to install 25 DC fast chargers across key locations by the end of August. According to the company, it is installing the most powerful public charging infrastructure the country has seen to date.
Each charging station will feature dual gun units with a capacity of 80 kW each. For comparison, the largest DC charging network in the country installed by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) features 60+60 kW dual gun DC charging.
The charging network aligns with the expansion strategy of Jagdamba Motors following the launch of Proton electric vehicles (EVs) in the domestic market. Technicians are in the final stages of selecting installation sites, with several already confirmed in western Nepal, according to the company.
Jagdamba Motors aims to install chargers approximately every 200 km to ensure better accessibility and convenience for EV users.

“We are committed to strengthening Nepal’s EV ecosystem,” Raju Kshetri, Senior Vice President of Jagdamba Motors, told MeroAuto. “Our immediate goal is to bring 25 charging stations into operation by the end of August. This will play a crucial role in reducing range anxiety and encouraging EV adoption.”
Each charging hub will support both CCS2 and GBT connectors to ensure compatibility with a wide range of EV models. Since Jagdamba Motors is also selling electric vans with GBT port, the company is going for chargers with mixed guns.
Nepal boasts a network of over 1,000 chargers with a mix of GBT and CCS2 guns. Although some vehicles on Nepali roads support charging speed of up to 350 kW, the lack of high-capacity infrastructure has so far limited fast-charging performance.
The deployment of 80 kW DC chargers is expected to significantly reduce waiting times at stations and enhance the overall EV ownership experience across the country.
