KATHMANDU: The new Kia Syros SUV has received a 5-star safety rating for both Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and Child Occupant Protection (COP) under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP).

This is the highest possible score a car can get in the assessment, highlighting its strong crash protection for both adults and children.

According to the company, the Syros is equipped with more than 16 autonomous safety technologies. It features Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS Level 2) and a standard 20 hi safety package, ensuring maximum protection for occupants.

In the BNCAP tests, the Syros scored 30.21 out of 32 points for adult protection and 44.42 out of 49 points for child protection. The assessments included a frontal crash at 63.95 km/h, a side impact at 50.17 km/h and a pole-side impact at 29.17 km/h.

Measuring under four meters in length, the Syros is a compact SUV that competes with other popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.

The Syros is packed with many safety features, including six airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution), tire pressure monitoring system, cruise control front and rear parking sensors, and seat belt reminders. The car also has a Rear Occupant Alert system, which reminds the driver to check the back seat before exiting the vehicle.

Kia offers the Syros with a choice of two engines: a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel.

The SUV sports a tall-boy, boxy design that combines traditional SUV styling with modern elements. It draws inspiration from Kia’s electric vehicles like the EV6 and EV9. The Syros aims to offer a mix of safety, space and technology at a competitive price.

Continental Trading Enterprises Pvt Ltd, the authorized distributor of Kia Motors in Nepal, is preparing to launch the Syros soon. The car will be positioned between Sonet and Seltos in Kia’s SUV lineup.
