KATHMANDU: Leapmotor, the Stellantis-backed Chinese automaker, has produced its 1 millionth vehicle in China as of September 25, 2025.
This achievement took six years, but the company has recently accelerated its pace. It produced 500,000 vehicles in just 343 days, setting a record for a Chinese emerging automaker according to Chinese media.
Founded in 2017, Leapmotor rolled out its first car in June 2019. Five years later, it reached its first 500,000 vehicles. In 2023, Stellantis, one of the world’s largest automotive groups, acquired a 21% stake in Leapmotor for 1.6 billion dollars and created Leapmotor International, where Stellantis holds a 51% share.
This partnership has boosted Leapmotor’s production and expanded its reach overseas.
Leapmotor’s founder, chairman and CEO, Zhi Jiangming, said the company aims to produce the next 1 million vehicles within the next year. Stellantis, which manages 14 brands including Chrysler, Peugeot, Jeep, Fiat and Maserati, is helping Leapmotor strengthen its global presence.
In Nepal, Shangrila Motors is the authorized distributor of Leapmotor. It offers models such as the entry-level T03, the flagship C10 SUV and the newly launched B10 SUV in the domestic market.
