KATHMANDU: Chinese automaker Leapmotor is set to debut its first premium hatchback, the Lafa 5, in Germany next week.

The company, which recently entered the global market through its partnership with European auto giant Stellantis, will showcase the Lafa 5 at the IAA Mobility 2025 which kicks off in Munich on September 9.

The Lafa 5 is built on the Leap 3.5 Modular Architecture also used by the B10 mid-range SUV which is already been launched in Nepal.

The premium hatchback features curved LED headlights, retractable door handles, a sporty roof spoiler and a single-bar taillight unit. The Lafa 5 will come with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, which is rare in small cars, along with an array of additional sensors and cameras to enhance safety and automation capabilities.

Leapmotor has kept technical specifications such as motor type, battery capacity or performance details of the Lafa 5 under the wraps.

The company, which is known for producing affordable cars, has been drawing significant attention in Europe following Stellantis’ investment in the company. The brand achieved record sales in August 2025, with 57,066 units sold globally. In the first eight months of 2025, Leapmotor reported sales of 328,859 vehicles and appears on course to meet its target of 500,000 units for the year.

Shangrila Motors, the authorized distributor of Leapmotor in Nepal, currently offers the entry-level T03, the flagship C10 SUV and the newly-launched B10 SUV in the domestic market.
