KATHMANDU: Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the latest version of its flagship luxury sedan, the S-Class. The model continues the brand’s tradition of introducing new vehicle technologies.
At Mercedes-Benz’s 140th anniversary event, the company unveiled the mid-cycle update of the W223 S-Class, highlighting major technology upgrades and powertrain improvements designed to meet upcoming Euro 7 emission standards.
The S-Class has a long history of firsts. It was the first production car to offer airbags, anti-lock braking systems, and adaptive cruise control.
Mercedes says the new S-Class features around 2,700 updated components. Exterior updates include a 20 percent larger illuminated grille, new digital twin-star headlights, redesigned 20-inch alloy wheels, and refreshed rear taillights.

Inside, the car gets the latest MB.OS operating system and the MBUX Superscreen. This setup includes a 14.4-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch passenger display under a single glass surface. A new water-cooled onboard supercomputer supports future driver assistance and parking features.
The cabin also includes a new steering wheel, heated seat belts with integrated airbags, and rear entertainment screens. Rear passengers can watch content on 13.1-inch displays as part of the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Infotainment System.

The new S-Class will be offered with petrol, diesel, and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The S 450 and S 500 use turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engines producing 375 bhp and 443 bhp. Diesel variants, the 350d and 450d, use mild-hybrid six-cylinder engines.
Two plug-in hybrid versions, the S 450 e and S 580 e, come with a 22 kWh battery and a claimed 73 miles of electric-only range.
At the top of the lineup is the S 680, powered by a 6.0-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. Mercedes has not yet disclosed performance figures. The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will be available to order later this year. Pricing details will be announced closer to launch.
